Primary objectives of the Berkshire Society

“The government is best which governs least.”, a statement declared by Thomas Jefferson over two hundred years ago, it laid out a foundation for how the Constitution should be interpreted and followed by the American people. In accordance to the wishes of the founding fathers, preceding presidents saw that the government remained balanced to please the citizen who composed this democratic nation.

As noted by Thomas Jefferson in the Constitution, factions will always be inevitable, and should be so in order for checks and balances in the government to be efficient. Because of inevitable factions, multiple points of views on running the government and interpreting the Constitution were formed. As a result of the many different perspectives, two groups were formed, according to common perspectives. Though the terms for the perspectives changed over years, the definitions remained relatively similar; one for limited government intervention and states rights, and the other in favor of a more progressive government, giving more power to the federal government with increased depth and breadth.

The Berkshire Society is an organization formed to resurrect the values that it believes “conservatism” once stood to represent; limited government, states rights, and government “of the people, for the people, and by the people.”

With the help of concerned citizens and input from conservative minds, the objective of The Berkshire Society is to revisit those issues that may not have been properly evaluated in a “conservative light” as well as compel citizens to stay true to the liberty that was intended by the founding fathers and the United States Constitution.
